How to activate DocxToWP Pro

Four steps, about three minutes. Most activation trouble comes from one misunderstanding, so that is first.

Pro is a separate plugin, not a key that unlocks the free one.

There is no licence box anywhere in the free DocxToPost plugin, because there is nothing in it for a key to unlock. Buying Pro gets you a second plugin to install. The licence box is inside that one.

The four steps

1. Download the Pro plugin

Your purchase email from us has the download link, and docxtowp.com/download always serves the current version. What you get is docxtowp-pro.zip. Do not unzip it. WordPress wants the .zip.

If you are thinking “this is the plugin I already have”, it is not. The free plugin is DocxToPost, from the WordPress.org directory. The paid plugin is DocxToWP Pro, from this download link. Different plugins, similar names, and that confusion is ours rather than yours.

2. Deactivate the free plugin

Go to Plugins and deactivate DocxToPost if you have it. Both plugins register the same admin menu, so with both active one of them vanishes from your sidebar.

You can leave it installed, or delete it. Posts you have already imported are ordinary WordPress posts and nothing here touches them.

3. Upload and activate Pro

Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin, choose the .zip, then Install Now and Activate. Your sidebar entry now reads DocxToWP Pro.

4. Enter your licence key

Go to DocxToWP Pro → Licence, paste your key, and click Activate. The screen confirms what the licence covers: your plan, how many sites it allows, and when it renews.

The key is in a separate email from Dodo Payments, who process the payment. Our email carries the download link; theirs carries the key. If you cannot find it, search your inbox for Dodo Payments and check your spam folder.

If the key will not activate

Nearly every one of these is one of three things:

  • Wrong plugin. Check your sidebar says DocxToWP Pro, not DocxToPost. The free plugin has no licence screen, so if you cannot find one, you are probably still in it.
  • Wrong value. Paste the licence key, not the order or invoice number, and make sure no space crept in at either end.
  • Already in use. Each licence covers a set number of sites. Open DocxToWP Pro → Licence on a site you no longer need and click Deactivate to free it up.

Still stuck? Email support@docxtowp.com. The DocxToWP Pro → Help & Support screen inside the plugin has a system report. Paste it into the email and it answers the first three questions I would otherwise have to ask.

Moving a licence between sites

Deactivate on the old site first, then activate on the new one. There is no limit on how many times you can do this, and it is the right way to handle a staging site, a domain change or a site you have handed over.

Common questions

I bought Pro. Where do I type my licence key?

At DocxToWP Pro → Licence, inside the Pro plugin. If your sidebar says DocxToPost rather than DocxToWP Pro, you are in the free plugin and there is no licence box there to find. Pro has not been installed yet.

The download link gives me the plugin I already installed.

It gives you DocxToWP Pro, which is a different plugin from the free DocxToPost even though both came from us and the download page looks familiar. Install the .zip you downloaded; it will not overwrite or conflict with anything, and your existing posts are untouched.

Do I have to remove the free plugin?

Deactivate it, yes. Both plugins register the same admin menu, so with both active one of them disappears from your sidebar and it is usually not the one you want. You can leave it installed and deactivated, or delete it. Your imported posts are ordinary WordPress posts and are not affected either way.

Where is my licence key?

In a separate email from Dodo Payments, who process the payment. The email from us carries the download link; the one from Dodo carries the key. If you cannot find it, search your inbox for Dodo Payments and check your spam folder.

My key will not activate.

Three things cause nearly all of these. Make sure you are pasting the licence key and not the order number. Make sure there are no spaces at either end. And check whether the licence is already in use on another site. Each licence covers a set number of sites, so deactivate it on a site you no longer need first.

Can I move the licence to another site?

Yes, as often as you like. On the site you are leaving, go to DocxToWP Pro → Licence and click Deactivate. That frees the activation immediately and you can then use the key on the new site. This is how to handle a staging site or a domain change.

Still not activated?

Send me the system report from DocxToWP Pro → Help & Support and I will tell you what the licence server is seeing.
