Installation guide

Two plugins, installed two different ways. Start with the free one.

Free version

The free plugin is listed on WordPress.org as DocxToPost. The name is different from the Pro plugin, which is DocxToWP, so searching the directory for “DocxToWP” will not find it.

  1. In your WordPress admin, go to Plugins → Add New.
  2. Search for DocxToPost.
  3. Click Install Now, then Activate.
  4. DocxToPost appears in your sidebar. Open it, drop in a .docx file, check the preview and publish.

Or install it from the WordPress.org directory and upload the zip yourself.

There is no upload cap and no trial period. It converts as many documents as you like, one at a time.

Pro version

Pro is not in the WordPress.org directory, because the directory only hosts free plugins. It arrives by email after purchase, currently $39 one-time.

  1. Find your licence key. It is in the confirmation email from DodoPayments, along with the docxtowp-pro.zip download.
  2. Deactivate the free plugin first if you have it installed. Running both at once causes a conflict.
  3. Go to Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin, choose the zip, then click Install Now and Activate.
  4. Go to DocxToWP → Settings → Licence, paste your key and click Activate.

The licence step is not optional. Every Pro screen is gated on an active licence, so a site with the plugin installed and no key entered shows an activation prompt rather than the importer. Activation is once per site.

Requirements

  • WordPress 6.0 or later
  • PHP 7.4 or later
  • The PHP zip extension, which nearly every host has enabled. A .docx file is a zip archive, so nothing can read one without it.

If something goes wrong

The upload fails with a file size error. Your host limits upload size. Increase upload_max_filesize and post_max_size, or ask your host to.

Pro screens show an activation prompt. The licence key has not been entered or did not validate. Check for stray spaces when pasting, and that the key came from your own purchase email.

Both plugins are active and menus look duplicated. Deactivate the free one. Pro is a superset and nothing is lost by removing it.

Posts you already imported are never affected by any of this. They are ordinary WordPress posts and stay exactly as they are, whatever happens to the plugin or the licence afterwards.
