How to Paste ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini Content Into WordPress
You ask ChatGPT for a blog post. It looks great in the chat. Then you paste it into WordPress and it falls apart.
Line breaks land in odd places. The table is gone. The title shows up twice. You spend 20 minutes fixing a post that took 30 seconds to write.
This happens with Claude, Gemini, Grok and Perplexity too. Here is why, and the free fix.
Why pasting AI content breaks
There are two ways to copy an AI answer. Both cause trouble.
You select the text with your mouse. Your browser copies the chat page's own HTML. WordPress gets the chat app's markup, not clean content.
You use the copy button. Most AI tools copy the answer as Markdown. That's plain text with symbols, like ## for a heading and ** for bold. WordPress does not read Markdown. The block editor tries to convert it when you paste, and gets close. But:
- Every single line break turns into a forced break, so paragraphs look chopped up.
- The first heading stays in the body, so your title appears twice.
- Tables can come through as rows of pipes and dashes.
- You are dropped straight into the editor with no preview.
For a short answer, that's fine. For a full blog post, it's a mess.
The fix: import it as a file
The trick is to stop pasting. Save the answer as a Markdown file and import the file instead. DocxToPost, the free plugin behind DocxToWP, turns it into real WordPress blocks.
- Copy the answer with the tool's copy button. Not with your mouse. The button gives you clean Markdown.
- Save it as a .md file. Paste into any text editor (Notepad, TextEdit in plain text mode, VS Code) and save it as
post.md. - Upload it in DocxToPost. In WordPress, open DocxToPost, drop in the file, click Convert & Preview.
- Check the preview and publish. The first
#heading becomes your post title and is removed from the body. Headings, lists, tables and code blocks each become their own block. Set categories, tags and status, then publish or save a draft.
One catch in step 4: if the answer has no # heading, only ## sections, the title comes from the filename, so post.md gives you a post called "post". You can fix it on the preview screen, or use the prompt tip below so it never happens.
It's free on WordPress.org, with no limit on how many files you import. If you have a folder of AI drafts, Pro's bulk import takes up to 100 .md files at once.

One prompt tip that works for all of them
Add this line to the end of your prompt:
Format the answer as one Markdown document. Start with a single # title. Use ## for sections. No intro or closing chat.
Now the title imports as your post title, and you don't have to delete "Sure! Here's your blog post" from the top.
ChatGPT to WordPress
Use the copy icon under the answer. It copies Markdown. Save it as a .md file and import it.
Images ChatGPT makes are not part of the copied text. Download them, then add them in the editor or set one as the featured image on the DocxToPost upload screen.
Claude to WordPress
Use the copy icon under Claude's answer. It also copies Markdown. Save it as a .md file and import it, the same as ChatGPT.
Claude often uses tables and code blocks. Both come through as real Table and Code blocks.
Gemini to WordPress
You have two routes with Gemini.
- Copy and import. Use the copy option on the answer, save as .md, import.
- Send it to Google Docs. Gemini can export an answer to a Google Doc. If you use DocxToWP Pro, paste that Google Docs link into the importer and you get a finished post with images in your Media Library. More on that in how to convert a Google Doc to a WordPress post.
Grok to WordPress
Grok's copy button gives you Markdown too, so the steps are the same as ChatGPT: copy with the button, save as .md, import. Add the prompt tip above so the answer starts with a # title.
Perplexity to WordPress
Perplexity answers come with citation numbers like [1] and a list of sources. Decide what you want before you import:
- Keep the sources. Good for research posts. Move the source list to the end as a "Sources" section with real links.
- Remove the numbers. Good if you are rewriting the answer in your own words anyway.
A fair warning: Perplexity pulls from other websites. Rewrite in your own words and check the facts before you publish.
Questions people ask
Can I paste ChatGPT straight into WordPress?
You can, but expect to fix line breaks, the title and sometimes tables by hand. Importing the answer as a .md file skips that.
Does this work for Claude, Gemini, Grok and Perplexity?
Yes. Any tool that copies its answer as Markdown works the same way. Gemini also has a Google Docs route.
Is the plugin free?
Yes. DocxToPost on WordPress.org imports .md and .docx files one at a time, with no cap. Pro adds bulk import of up to 100 files and Google Docs links.
Will the post need the plugin to stay working?
No. The post is made of normal WordPress blocks. You could remove the plugin the next day and the post stays the same.
Does Google penalize AI content?
Google's own guidance says it judges content on quality, not on how it was made. Still, edit it, add your own experience and check every fact. See Google Search's guidance about AI-generated content.
The short version
Copy with the button, not the mouse. Save it as .md. Import it with DocxToPost. Check the preview. Publish.
